by Gloria Noriega People and their families manifest in their every day behavior their ancestors’ influence even if they never met them. This is due to an unconscious communication process which runs between family members from one generation to another, while reproducing a family script. Transgenerational scripts are patterns of relationship that people learned from their ancestors and continue reproducing in their life without awareness, just like an actor is acting a script every day on the stage at a theatre. An epidemiological study, based on transactional analysis theory, was conducted by the author in Mexico City with a sample of 830 women, using codependency as an example of a transgenerational scripts. Codependency is a disorder in the area of interpersonal relationships, going further to the commonly known situation related to family members of people addicted to alcohol and other kind of drugs, it is a multidimensional problem also associated with many other stressful experiences. |

International Conference “Europe Looks East” was held on 7th and 8th of October with guest of honour Mikhail Gorbachev – initiator of the perestroika and its echo in the countries from the former socialist camp. It was my pleasure to attend the event and to meet this emblematic figure for the World modern history. I do not have political or party affiliations but I know one thing for sure: the social policy, including employment programmes (at a European or national level), automatically affects the working life both practically and individually. That’s why I would like to present in shortly the geopolitical and economical disputes that were subject of this forum. |

The employer branding subject has become very fashionable nowadays. From the perspective of the business it offers a competitive advantage to
companies which are investing their attention developing their employer
brand as a powerful tool in attracting the kind of talent they need to
succeed.
As business in general becomes more global, a strong employer
brand perception is increasingly essential in persuading talent that
your company is an organization they would prefer to work for! At the same time companies are always interested in certain groups of people or
individuals who can help or support their business aims and growth. |

A couple of days in a foreign country were enough for us to learn a couple of words, on one hand, because of courtesy, on the other hand, because we had fun with this. It was Day 5 of the well-deserved vacation and we had three minutes in an open-air restaurant to figure out what we’d like to eat and drink after a couple hours’ drive by the sea. I was ready to order in the local language and I listed everything when the waiter responded in perfect English telling me he would only take our food orders. That slowed me down. I had to realize that it was the time to relax, not the time to wind up. After all, it was 10.30pm.
Is it like that at work too? Do we realize when it’s time to stop, when it’s time to celebrate? When’s the last time you had a drink with colleagues? What’s the latest thing you learnt about the person sitting next to you in the office? Would you recognize the person you send the majority of your emails to if you saw him/her in a supermarket? During a training session back in May, the facilitator asked us how we usually celebrate after a successful project close. A 20-second silence followed. That issue is now on our ‘to-be-improved’ list. |

Flow and the Quality of Life 2009
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is one of the greatest living psychologists of our age. He earned his fame by defining and providing a detailed description of the FLOW state. Csikszentmihályi described FLOW as “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you're using your skills to the utmost. The slide show of the presentation is available here. |
